Made with Pride in Uganda

Every piece we sell carries the soul of its maker β€” a craftsperson who has spent years mastering their art. Our mission is to bring that mastery to the world.

Our Story

Born from a Love of Ugandan Craftsmanship

Uganda is home to some of Africa's most gifted artisans β€” weavers, carvers, beaders, and painters whose skills have been passed down through generations. Yet their work has rarely reached the global audience it deserves.

Amba Craft was founded in 2023 with a deep passion for promoting local artisans and sustainable practices. We work directly with artisan families and cooperatives across Uganda, from the basket weavers of Rakai to the bark cloth makers of Buganda, to bring their work to customers in the UK, Dubai, and beyond.

When you buy from us, you're not just purchasing a beautiful object β€” you're directly funding a family, preserving a tradition, and connecting to a culture with thousands of years of history.

UNESCO Heritage

The World's Only Bark Cloth Tradition

Ugandan bark cloth β€” known as mutuba β€” is made from the inner bark of the Mutuba fig tree (Ficus natalensis). The bark is carefully stripped, beaten, and processed into a soft, durable material unlike anything else in the world.

In 2008, UNESCO inscribed Ugandan bark cloth making onto its Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. When you buy a bark cloth product from us, you own a piece of this extraordinary living heritage.
